Since 2005, Designs By Ferdod—located in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square—has partnered with a Tibetan family rooted in Nepal’s rug tradition to create bespoke luxury rugs. Working directly with skilled Nepalese artisans who receive fair wages, we combine time-honored techniques with the finest natural and innovative materials, dyed with low-impact processes that honor both craft and environment.
Led by owners Ferdod Haghighi, a second-generation handmade-rug expert, and Karli Neale—both artists and designers—Designs By Ferdod provides direct access to Nepal’s unparalleled rug craftsmanship. For more than two decades we have cultivated an immersive experience defined by sophistication and meticulous attention to detail. Each custom piece reflects our commitment to ethical collaboration, lasting quality, and refined aesthetic—an heirloom of artistry made to elevate interiors with quiet luxury.

Operating as a small boutique-style company, they are dedicated to hands-on involvement in each custom order, prioritizing limited editions and distinctive pieces for those who view contemporary design as an art form. In addition to their own collection, they also produce private label custom rug collections for select design firms throughout the US, offering direct wholesale price points and flexibility in design collaboration. Operating out of a historical building in Seattle’s art district of Pioneer Square, their 4,000 sq. ft. street-level space was purchased and renovated in 2005 after the couple relocated from Vancouver, BC, Canada. This dedication to craftsmanship and individualized attention to each project sets Designs By Ferdod apart in the world of contemporary rug design.

Our History
Behie Khalighi
Mother Of Founder Ferdod Haghighi
Ferdod was immersed in the family business from an early age, learning in a high‑end boutique showroom in West Vancouver, BC. He credits Behie Khalighi—the founder of Pegasus Rugs in the early 1990s—as a knowledgeable mentor and the teacher who shaped his years of experience and refined his understanding of quality, technique, and design.
Father:
Ferydoun Haghighi began his work with Persian carpets in the 1970s, drawing on his Kurdish heritage and deep connections in northern Iran to produce a distinctive line of rugs. An avid collector of antique tribal carpets, he combined scholarship and passion: beyond the workshop he was a devoted mountain climber, humanitarian, and student of culture. He earned a PhD in child psychology from the University of Texas, a chapter of his life that coincided with the family’s relocation during the Iranian Revolution in 1979. After returning to Iran, he continued to export antique and vintage carpets as well as his own line of Persian Kurdish rugs to the family gallery in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, bridging traditions and markets across continents.
